White Guilt, White Pride

White Guilt, White Pride.

I do not feel an ounce of White Pride, nor do I feel an ounce of White Guilt. I had nothing to do with being born White, therefore I have no control and therefore no pride. And as for guilt, it is the same. I do not feel guilty for things I have not done.

This doesn’t mean you do not feel the way you do. What it means is you cannot make me or rationalize why I should, feel guilty. I am proud for many people and the things they have done, of all races. Proud FOR them. I feel they deserve to have pride in their actions, not their race. As for guilt? I think there are many people who are guilty of many things but none of them are because of race. They are because of actions. And I am guilty of things. However, it is my actions, or in-action, not my lack of melanin or where my ancestors are from that has caused those actions.

Some might say it is my culture that creates my actions and my culture is tied to my race. If I were a child this might be arguable. However, I am an adult with free will and intelligent enough to choose actions based on ethics, morals, consequences and experiences. Quite often my choices are not the same as another person of my race or culture and since it is not, how can you attribute it to that attribute?

What do you think? Are we guilty for the sins of our fathers? Should we feel some sense of worthiness or shame because of our ancestors? If you think so, please help me to understand your point of view.
