Pandering, Posturing, Virtue Signaling or is donating actually helping?

I spent some time this morning researching how BLM is spending their new found riches. I did not have much luck. Google keeps bringing up pieces that deny the money goes ‘directly’ (their quotations not mine) to the Democratic Party. I found very little in the way of how the funds are budgeted or specific measures of it’s impact. I did find the following:

According to information provided to FactCheck.org by Thousand Currents, about one-quarter of Black Lives Matter expenditures in fiscal year 2019 went to salaries, benefits, and payroll taxes and 46% went to “consultant fees,” but the audit provides no further details. A small fraction was spent on grants, and much of the rest was allocated to accounting, bank fees, information technology, insurance, legal fees, and office expenses.

If I believe in something and want to support it’s success I should 1. Know where my resources (money most often) is going 2. Who decides how it is utilized 3. How it is utilized and 4. Is it effective and impacting the desired goal. In addition I think starting local with the least amount of overhead (waste) is important. None of this appears to be happening nor even important to the donors. That is why I lean on the side of Pandering, Band-Wagon jumping, Posturing and Virtue signaling.

For example, I support deployed troops. I was working with two organizations that I had vetted with the same questions I raised earlier. My donations went directly to specific troops with whom I got feedback on needs and outcomes. Literally none of the resources (my time and money) were used to pay a salary or any other form of overhead. When one of the organizations started charging a fee to cover their administrative costs I stopped using them. I think they are still a great organization doing great work but I wanted 100% of my resources going to the source of the need. Can any of these ‘Donors’ say that about what they are doing? Do they even care what is done with the money or is it all about their image?
