On average according to a study used by moving companies a person moves 11.7 times in their life time. It's nice to know I'm above average. With each move of the last three or four we have said, "Never again." This was in part because we loved the area and the home we were moving to, but also because it is a heck of a lot of work. The older we got the more stuff we accumulated. (Side note, I call it crap, but that bothers my husband so we both agree stuff will work) Are we all like this? Was George Carlin right? We keep getting bigger homes and then we get more stuff?
As for full disclosure, we have failed downsizing with our last two moves. The move before this was to be our retirement home and we went from a 2500 square foot home to 3100 square feet. My husband kept working and now as he approaches his last day at work this December, we made the decision to move out of state and found the perfect place, except it has 4800 square feet of living space. Of course since we will both be retired this gives us each room to roam...and then some.
