I got your 6

Words to live by in a civil society in my opinion. So first, where does I got your 6 come from? In laymen terms it is I have your back. The position of 6 on a clock is behind the center point so in law enforcement or military terminology it means I am covering you from threats from your rear or behind you.
As often happens, there are connections of things in your life at any given time. The first thought of I got your 6 today came in the form of an email from a friend who is offering to step in for me while I am gone to Tennessee to set up the new house. She offered to help at y husbands retirement celebration they are having at work. I am grateful that I have friends who step up and help. Friends who pitch in when you do not even know you need help. I am blessed beyond measure with the friends God has brought in to my life.
The next example of, and in my opinion the worst response to the concept, is what I saw California lawmakers just did. There is a law on the books that originated over 100 years ago. it states that if a peace officer asks a civilian to help in an emerging situation they are obligated to do so under penalty of a misdemeanor if they don't. Good idea in my mind. A single officer with no back up at the time needs help why would I not help? Because not only am I helping keep the officer safe I am potentially helping keep others, myself included, safe. But No. Not in California. Even though there is not a problem, or even a single case, of an officer inappropriately asking for help and then charging someone who doesn't, the lawmakers feel this is a law that is bad and must be removed. Some idiot, for lack of a better descriptor even went so far as to say the law was written to enhance slavery (which ended prior to the law being enacted). I do not want to live in a state or community where we are not expected or even encouraged to help.
And the third connection is to my husband...who daily has my 6 and supports me far more than I deserve. And I have and always will have his 6. So I am thinking maybe my next tattoo...
